Walking a Mile

Walk a mile

We’ve all heard the expression, “don’t judge a person, until you walk a mile in their shoes.” Have you ever actually thought on this term and placed yourself in someone’s shoes?

Personally, when I am speaking with someone or making a decision that can affect their lives that is what needs to be done.  By understanding what your actions could cause, is very vital in the words and choices you will make when it comes to others. It’s a hard process to really understand who you are speaking with.

Many people are very quick to judge someone by what they look like. They don’t take the time to realize who or what that person is. The person you judge to be an idiot or worthless, may just be the best person you could have ever known. Judging quickly doesn’t allow yourself to take a step into their shoes and get to know them.

Understanding the way a person thinks, moves, and  what they been through is very key in your verdict on them. By knowing the person, you know how to react in stressful situations by giving bad or good news. People respond differently to issues that you bring up to them. By knowing and understanding who you are speaking with will help choose your words and how to send out the message.

It’s hard to grasp people’s lives and to walk a mile in their shoes. If you are the boss, manager, or decision maker for your group or people you oversee, you need to master this. You have to really focus on every aspect of the team and every member to a science. Understanding their feelings, life, etc. is the only way to help them grow and how to handle them. One false move could cost the trust of your team and loss of trust means loss of leadership.

Walk a mile in everyone shoes in this Savage World, that you are no longer living in, but beginning to own!
