Pete and Repeat

We all know this story, but in case you don’t. Pete and Repeat are on a boat, Pete jumps in, who is left on the boat? Repeat..Pete and Repeat are in a boat, Pete jumps in, who is left? So on and so on.

Anyways, I have a point to using the Pete and Repeat. It is very common and should be used in business and every day life.  Simply repeat what you hear.

Sounds kind of crazy and annoying right, to repeat what you hear to your boss or friends? Honestly, it’s not as crazy as you think. The Pete and Repeat concept is very basic and very vital. To repeat what your boss said in the right format helps clarify what they request of you.

For example, your boss tells you he needs a fax sent to Jim in accounting about the tps bill. You respond, okay you would like a fax sent to Jim about the TPS bill, anything else? Yes, that’s a small and simple example, but it lets the boss know that you understand it needs to be done and will be done.

Many people like knowing what they said has been heard and clarified. This also works when you are in a sales meeting and showing the prospect you are understand what they want and need.

This also helps you remember what is needed to be done by restating it back to them. It clears up any confusion you may have. It’s a fast word and usually someone barks an order or request at you so fast you can’t catch it all. Slow down and double-check what they want.

Everything comes back to Pete and Repeat. Listen to what they are saying, repeat it, and then go do it. Write it down if need be to. In the end it will just make yourself look more attentive to your duties and/or clients.

Pete and Repeat is a great skill in this Savage World; that you are no longer living in, but beginning to own!
