Handling a Debbie Downer

Sad...

We all know people like Miss. Debbie Downer here. You know the person that is always sad, depressed, or upset about something.  These people strive on drama and love bringing people down to their level of depression. This person comes to you at work, at home, and out with your friends. The question is how do we handle them?

The main to remember is this type of person wants to bring you down. Even though it may not be on purpose, they still want to bring you down with their pain. They feel if they share their pain and show how hurt they are, they will earn your attention and pity. Not a way to live at all, but sadly many people do this.

One way to handle a person that is always a downer is don’t give them the pity they so badly want. One thing that I personally do, is offer advice or ask them what are they going to do about it. Ask them the hard questions to help break them of the issues or just not bring it around my office or group of friends anymore. A Debbie Downer, doesn’t like this, they would prefer you to give them pity and feel sorry for all their pain.

Another way to avoid a Debbie Downer, is kill em with positivity. Talk them up and the team up all around them.  Don’t let the negative attitude get you or affect you, in essence just ignore it. This will show the person that the negative attitude is not allowed where ever you are.

Now, when we talk about a Debbie Downer today, I am not talking about a person who gets upset and depressed here and there. The people being discussed is the person who always has an issue and bringing down the group.

In the end handling a Debbie Downer is key in this Savage World; that you are no longer living in, but beginning to own!
