Cats in the Cradle

And all that..

Most of you know the song Cats in the Cradle, if you haven’t then this post may not make much sense. Basically it’s about a father and son trying to spend time together, the catch is the father never has time for the boy as he grows. In the end, the role is reversed, the son grows up and never has time for his father. The fear is that he grew up just like him.

Please don’t think I mean this about my father, in fact my father even though was a very busy man growing up he was always there for me.  The real reason I am discussing the Cats in the Cradle, is to stress a fact on what you put off today may not be done tomorrow. This is not just a father and son thing, but a family thing, friend thing, office thing, etc.

The problem is in this busy world, people are just so busy even for their friends and family. Someone will reach out to you about going to see a movie or your son to go play catch. Your response, not today and I got a lot to do, but later okay?

Later just never really comes and you start placing family members and friends on hold for whatever you are engulfed in. Everything else is more important to get done in your life knowing your friends and family will always be there.

One by one, your family members and friends will start noticing that you aren’t worth the time.  Slowly they reverse the thought process when you call up and say you want some time together. They nicely say, no thanks, I am busy because of XYZ.

To avoid the Cats in the Cradle, just be there and you don’t have to always drop whatever you are doing, but be there. Don’t ignore the ones you care for, because one day they could be singing the song to you and turn the page. Then where will you be? Everything that was so important like your job and activities are gone. Who will be left?

Being there for your loved one is key in this Savage World; that you are no longer living in, but beginning to own!
