The Trip Home

Facing it head on

I know, you all missed me and now I am back to slam your morning with daily positive messages! Just got back last night from my trip to the east coast and a visit to my home town. They say you can never go home again and it truly never is the same.

Driving through all my places I use to attend when I was kid is pretty surreal. Over the past thirteen years many places that were beautiful are now run down and destroyed.  On the other hand, there were some run down places that were rebuild.

It’s easy to say how the houses, parks, schools, etc change, but the people as well.  It was amazing to see everyone that we saw and how they changed, yet stayed the same.  The friendship that was there thirteen years ago, was just like yesterday with all our troubles long gone.

Going home can really humble you. It takes all your fears of going home, seeing the old house that isn’t your home anymore and smacks you in the past. Then there is the people you missed that moved on without you and it hurts that you weren’t there for the key moments on their lives.

Everyone needs to go back home sometime and face their demons, fears, and joys. In a small way, I did all them. My appearance in my home town was brief and ninja like, but it was the right thing to do. You can try to escape your past, but it will always find a way to pull you back to meet it face to face. Might as well turn to face it head on.

Facing your home is key in this Savage World; that you are no longer living in, but beginning to own!
